CITY MYSTIC NEW YORK TAROT REVIEW

The City Mystic Tarot project was an idea that was born to Ginnie after her first trip to Paris, France in 2009 when she was absorbed in her study of the Tarot. Ginnie took her favorite Tarot study book along but became dissatisfied in Paris each time she sat down to write about the project. The illustrations were outdated and cartoonish. They were also boring. They were a sharp contrast to the visual playground of Paris. In a state of conflict between her passion for learning about the Tarot and the dismal quality of the common Tarot image, she was unable to figure out why Tarot deck images weren’t more pertinent to our modern-day urban experience. In the end, everything she was learning said that the Tarot represented humanity. However, the images contained in Tarot decks were hard to connect to in the present-day world. It was stimulating her curiosity and beckoning her to step out of the confines of Tarot decks to walk the streets of the city.

After returning home, she began looking for the opportunity to create her personal black and white Tarot deck inspired by the immense beautiful natural landscape in Paris, France. Then she went to London and decided that she wanted to make three different decks of photos: New York for its deep connection with American Masonry and Occultism, London because of its significance in Masonry, Occultism and Hermeticism, and Paris because of its part in the tale of Alchemy in its Renaissance period, which helped to bring Tarot into its position as a divinity instrument.
